Spring in your Step II

Holiday Break Performing Arts Program

ABOUT

Put a 'Spring in your Step' these Spring school holidays and gather at Bom Funk's Queanbeyan HQ for a week of dance workshops culminating in an in-house dance performance. The program is designed to allow regional NSW students access to professional dance tutors and cultivate their passion for dance and the production process.

We invite applications from students aged 12 - 24 years living in regional NSW with some dance knowledge/experience and a passion for dance, who otherwise would not get the opportunity to participate in such events with industry leaders, OR who would benefit from an intensive holiday program to enhance their dance skills and ability.

Spring in your Step is supported by the NSW Government through Create NSW & the 23/24 Holiday Break Program. The Holiday Break Program is an Office of Regional Youth program designed to provide regional young people (12–24 years old) with access to recreational and social activities. These activities are responsive, free, and local so their creativity, imagination, self-confidence, and self-efficacy is enhanced, as well as their physical, social, cognitive and emotional development skills.

The Program

Spring in your Step is a dance workshop program with a performance outcome aimed at high school age students (but open to Youth 12 - 24 years) in regional NSW. The program allows students to spend a week training with several high-calibre performing arts instructors, working on various dance styles to create an immersive dance piece, performed in Bom Funk’s Highlight Theatrette for family, friends and special guests. Spring in your Step II marks the second time this program will be run and fully funded by Create NSW.

The purpose of the program is to give dancers authentic exposure to the production environment and what it takes to piece together a show as a dance professional in the industry. It allows students in regional areas access to industry professionals that they usually would not be able to work with and learn from. The program encourages creativity and technical development while also includes sessions for the dancers on mental health and wellbeing so that they can give the best performance at the end of the program.

The performance will be held in Bom Funk’s own Highlight Theatrette with professional sound & lighting equipment, meaning that students can work within their performance space for the entire week to create a more immersive experience for the audience and dancers. This allows students to learn about the process from creation through to performance. Costumes and props are provided for the performance (except personal basics such as leotards, underwear & dance shoes).
